Why we ask for proof of ownership before we open a lock
We do not open a lock for someone who cannot show the bike is theirs. That protects you when it is yours, and the street when it is not.
What counts: receipt, invoice, insurance policy, bike registration, or a clear ID photo plus the bike. A Marktplaats screenshot is not ownership.
No proof, no grinder. Not even if it is pouring and you have a last metro. That has been the rule for twenty years.
Send the proof on WhatsApp first. Then we are not waiting dry on the pavement.
A message saying ‘it is mine’ is not proof. Receipt, policy, registration, or a sharp photo of your ID with the bike. That is it.
We keep the rule when it is raining and the metro is about to leave. That is exactly when someone calls who does not own it.
Send it first. Then we are not standing around. We are now open is about speed, not skipping the check.
