Kids’ bike
Buy a kids’ bike in Amsterdam
Kids’ bike. Size, crashes, school yard. Not a scaled-down adult bike as marketing.
Message about this kids’ bike16, 20, 24 or 26 inch
A kids’ bike is a size, not a colour. 16 inch for the child just off stabilisers, 20 for the lower years, 24 and 26 until they fit a small adult omafiets. Too big is dangerous on an Amsterdam bridge; too small is frustration and a bar in the belly.
Inside-leg, no guessing
Message age and inside-leg. We name the inch, no guessing because ‘the neighbour had a 20 too’.
Gazelle, Alpina, Puky — not a toy
Gazelle, Batavus, Alpina, Puky: frames that survive a fall on bricks. Toy bikes with plastic cranks and no real brakes do not come with us. Used ones have crashes behind them — we check wheels, stem, headset, brake cables.
School-yard theft
School yard: from the age they ride alone, a lock comes with it. Not a mini cable. A kids’ bike vanishes as fast as an adult one, and then the child stands without.
Stabilisers or not
Stabilisers, footrest, extra-low step-through: say what you need. We do not force a ‘learner’ if the child is ready for 20 inch.
Send the age
WhatsApp: kids’ bike, age, inside-leg, whether they ride to school alone. Then the size that fits, or that you should wait until the growth spurt eases.
